Houbara Bustards
A programe to protect houbara from extinction in North Africa covered by Abu Dhabi Government. An international fund for the programme started in 2006 and covering many centers Asia and Africa. The Morocco center is planning to release a number of 15,000 houbara’s each season. Spring is the main season for breading houbara’s. Houbara’s are released in two main areas in Morocco’s wild just when they are under 9 months old. 65% of the birds survive after a year of release. The birds released are monitored by scientists. “One of the keys of success is the reproduction of the captive birds.” Said Mr. Lieeron. (Todorova,2011). The density of houbara’s in the wild has increased 10 times and this reflects the success of the pant.
